How to make your house smell nice – three tips
Vacuum your aircon
Chantel said: “Vacuum air conditioner filters and add essential oil for hidden fragrance.”
She showed how the fittings in the vents from her own air conditioning units are full of dust. Removing this dust will not only make air con more efficient but also improve the smell of the air. For an extra boost, Chantel uses essential oils too.
Use coffee beans
Chantel showed how to make an air freshener out of a cupboard staple and a tea light. She said: “Place coffee beans in a bowl and it’s a tea light. The candle heats the coffee and smells incredible.”
Make your own air freshener
Lastly, Chantel recommended a method to make your own air freshener easily at home. She detailed: “Mix one cup of water with one tablespoon of rubbing alcohol and essential oil.

What can make your home smell?
Mould in the washing machine
Washing machines are breeding grounds for mould, which not only smells but can impact your health. It’s important to clean your washing machine thoroughly, especially around the rubber gasket, and keep the door open when it’s not in use to avoid moisture.
There is also a little-known part of the washing machine Britons should clean four times a year.
Bins smell because they contain rotting food. This is a simple fix, take the bins out as often as you can – daily if possible – and wash out the interior of your bins weekly.
Carpets are the perfect surface to capture all your household dust and dirt, which will eventually begin to smell. Hoover three times and get carpets professionally cleaned once a year.
The fridge can become smelly easily after housing lots of foods, some of which go off while in there. Clean out old food from your fridge regularly and give the interior of your fridge a wipe-down regularly. Baking soda can also be used to make an odour absorber to stave off gross smells for longer.
Bed sheets should be washed every two weeks at least. Otherwise, the skin, sweat and other bodily substances omitted from them will begin to smell.
