‘Best’ method to get rid of fruit flies overnight – ‘it actually works’

Fruit flies can be a problem year-round, but are especially common during the summer as they are attracted to ripened or fermenting fruits.

According to one social media content creator, there is an easy way to get rid of fruit flies instantly.

The Mommy Life Squad, which is run by two women, turned to technology to alleviate their fly problem and asked: “Siri, how do I get rid of fruit flies?”

The virtual assistant responded: “Mix about an inch of apple cider vinegar and a few drops of dish soap in a tall glass.”

The content creators said: “All right that’s done, now let’s set it aside to see if it actually works.”

12 hours later, they updated followers: “I left this for a whole night and came back to it the next morning.”

She lifted up the glass and looked underneath to see several fruit flies had been attracted to the solution and fallen in.

The video ended with: “Oh my gosh it works, now I’ll never have to ask Siri again.”

How does apple cider vinegar and washing up liquid kill flies?

This mixture is so good at killing flies thanks to the properties of its ingredients. The sweet apple cider vinegar attracts the flies to the mixture.

While flies usually land on sweet liquids and drink them, dish soap disrupts this.

The soap means when the flies land on the mixture they fall in, and then they quickly drown.

As for whether others find this fly trap successful, several TikTok users testified to the hack working for them. One said: “This is my favourite hack.”

A second wrote: “I did this and it worked so well now I can’t find a single fly in my house.”

Another said: “Works every time.” And a fourth chimed: “I’ve done this before and it works for me every time.”
