With spring almost here, it’s a good idea to start cleaning your home. But you don’t need to buy expensive cleaning products to freshen up your household items. Look no further than your kitchen cupboard for sodium bicarbonate, more commonly known as baking soda.

Many cleaning experts have praised the versatility and effectiveness of baking soda.

One cleaning expert who swear by the product is Becky Rapinchuk, founder of cleaning website Clean Mama.

She has shared how to get the most out of your baking soda and which areas of your home can be cleaned with it.

Other products can also be added to baking soda to create more effective cleaning solutions.

If you add half a cup of vinegar and three drops of essential oil to a cup of baking soda, you can use this mixture as a basic sink cleaner.

Becky advised pouring the mixture into the sink, with the plug in, and scrubbing the inside of the sink with a sponge or cloth.

Rinse with plenty of hot water.

You can also use a toothbrush to remove any dirt on or around the sink’s taps.

This baking soda formula can also be used to clean your toilet.

Combine the ingredients again, but this time add a little more essential oil, and pour the mixture into your toilet.

Scrub the toilet bowl with a toilet brush and flush.

To make your bathroom smell clean too, use baking soda as an air freshener.

To do this, add a few drops of essential oil into a small glass jar of baking soda.

Cover the jar with a piece of fabric and secure it with a rubber band.

Then, shake the jar well and place it in your bathroom, or anywhere else you think needs freshening up.

Another use for baking soda is as a carpet freshener.

Mix two cups of baking soda with up to ten or more drops of essential oil and sprinkle the formula onto your rug or carpet.

Let it sit for around 15 minutes before vacuuming the carpet.

In the kitchen, baking soda can be used with vinegar and essential oils again to clean the stove, as well as the oven.

For the oven, you can use baking soda alone and sprinkle it onto the appliance’s grates and allow it to sit overnight.

The next day, use a sponge or brush to remove the grease and grime.
