Oven cleaning isn’t the most pleasant of household chores, but with these simple methods, oven racks can be clean and sparkling again with minimal effort. And most likely, you’ll probably have the items you need for the task in the house already.

Washing up liquid

Many people get their oven racks glistening again with just some simple washing-up liquid.

Wearing household gloves, put the oven racks into a sink or bath of hot water and washing-up liquid.

Let them soak for a while and then using a scourer, gently lift the remaining grime away from the racks.

Be careful when scrubbing not to be too rough, as this may scratch and damage the racks.

When the racks are clean, give them a good rinse and dry completely with paper towels before returning them to the oven.

Baking soda

Baking soda can be used for a variety of cleaning tasks around the home, including cleaning oven racks.

Before cleaning the oven racks, put on some household gloves to protect yourself from the chemicals.

Put the steel oven racks into special oven cleaning bags (available to purchase online or in some shops), before putting them into the bathtub.

With the racks in the bath, it is time to let the baking soda work its magic on the grease and grime.

Oven valeting service Ovenu explains on their website: “Sprinkle baking soda over your steel oven racks and douse them with vinegar.

“This will cause foaming so be sure to do this over an area that you don’t mind getting messy.

“Submerge your oven racks in 1/2 a cup of hot dishwashing soap.

“Ensure your oven racks are completely submerged in the cleaning solution.

“Leave the stainless steel racks to soak in the baking soda cleaning solution for at least six hours.

“Tilt the bag after two hours, so that the racks become recoated in cleaning fluids.”

The racks can be left to soak overnight in the oven-cleaning bags to help dissolve the grease.

After the racks have had time to soak, they can be removed from the bags, while wearing protective gloves, and rinsed carefully in hot soapy water.

Dryer sheets

Many people swear by tumble dryer sheets for getting oven racks sparkling again.

Simply line the bottom of the bathtub with the sheets and put the racks on top of them.

Then cover the racks with hot water and add half a cup of dish soap, as this helps to degrease the racks.

Rinse the racks clean and dry them completely with paper towels.
