Ikea is entering the gaming-accessories market with a new product line launching later this year.

The Swedish furniture giant said the gaming range includes over 30 products—”gaming desks and chairs, a drawer unit – and accessories – a mug holder, a mouse bungee, a neck pillow, a ring light and many more.”

In designing the accessories, Ikea partnered with ASUS Republic of Gamers, a hardware company that targets gamers. Ikea says that the product line is specifically aimed at PC gamers.

Ikea launched the product range in January at Ikea China, and the products will be available worldwide by October of this year.

While the pandemic has decimated traditional entertainment industries like movies and television production, gaming has enjoyed a relative surge in interest and revenues. And gaming furniture has boomed along with it. With streamers on YouTube and Twitch commanding large audiences who dissect every element of the stream, including the furniture, gaming chairs and accessories have become a major revenue driver.

The gaming market recently surpassed the film industry in terms of revenue, MarketWatch reported in December. MarketWatch also reported data from the market research company IDC estimating the gaming industry’s revenues at $180 billion in 2020.

Ikea isn’t the first furniture company to try to get in on the gaming boom. In July 2020, Herman Miller partnered with Logitech to produce an ergonomic gaming chair targeting streamers, gamers, and esports players. Amazon Basics sells a gaming chair that’s currently sold out.

Some professional gamers and streamers have capitalized on the furniture boom with their own branding. The streamer Ninja’s branding appears on a NEEDforSEAT limited-edition gaming chair.

And even non-gamers are getting in on the ergonomics of gaming furniture. Serena Williams’ Architectural Digest home tour revealed that the athlete has a pink-and-white gaming chair of her own.
