Money tips: Savvy saver reveals how £40 a month can be saved by making your own meal deal
In times like these, saving as much money as possible will take priority. Many people have lost their incomes or jobs as a result of coronavirus and others will be forced to work at home, inviting a different kind of difficulty.

For many people, office work can be difficult due to high pressure targets and limited time for proper breaks.
Dedicating time to effective and frugal shopping and cooking habits can feel impossible at times.
One Reddit user recently bemoaned this modern problem, complaining that despite taking advantage of common “meal deals” they still end up spending nearly £200 a month on food.
This is the case even though the user detailed that their dinner gets paid for by their company.
They reached out to the community for tips on how to reduce spending without turning to complex cooking plans.
Reddit user “SatsumaInMyRoomba” detailed that doing this without effective cooking measures will be difficult.
But despite this, there were still some actions which could prove useful.

One of these plans includes making a personal meal deal.
Using some of the common items seen in supermarket meal deals, the user broke down how savings could be achieved by buying in bulk
As they explained: “You can get 24 bags of Walkers crisps for £3.
“A loaf of bread for £1.50, for 20 slices.
“Sandwich filling (ham, cheese, salad, pickle etc.) £2 would probably see you through 5 fillings at least.

“Eight bottles of Buxton sparkling water for £2.
“Eighteen cans of Diet Coke for £7.”
This shopping list could seem pointless without context but they went on to calculate how taking these measures could be beneficial.
The user continued: “So for a meal of one bag of crisps, a sandwich, a coke and a sparkling water, it would cost just £1.25.
“So five days a week, 4.33 weeks to a month, that would save you £40.
“And in my opinion is far more convenient, as you don’t have to waste your time walking to the shops and queuing every day.”
It is pointed out that these savings could be stretched further if time is found for cooking and food preparation.
While these numbers will vary depending on where people shop, they can still be illustrative of the potential savings available.
