These Are the Abortion Funds to Donate to ASAP
According to a leaked draft majority decision published by Politico on Monday evening, the Supreme Court is prepared to overturn Roe v. Wade—the landmark 1973 Supreme Court decision that protected a person’s right to abortion. The draft also suggests that the Supreme Court is prepared to strike down the 1992 decision made in Planned Parenthood v. Casey, which upheld the constitutional right to abortion and established an “undue burden” standard for laws that seek to undermine a human’s right to bodily autonomy.
According to Politico, justices have changed their votes on decisions after a draft opinion has circulated in the past. So the decision will not be finalized until it is published, likely in the next two months.
If Roe v. Wade is overturned, 13 states have trigger laws that would automatically ban abortion in these states as soon as the court allows it. If you’re feeling angry or terrified and want to channel that anger into action, you can donate to one of the on-the-ground abortion funds that’s prepared to continue ensuring access to safe abortions.
We’ve rounded up some state and national abortion funds you can donate to now, but this is by no means an exhaustive list of all the abortion funds available. You can find more national and state abortion funds through the National Network of Abortion Funds.
Many of these funds help people pay for the costs associated with abortion, including travel costs, which can be a significant barrier to abortion care. Additionally, you can donate through ActBlue, which will divide your donation among 29 organizations—including some of the ones listed below—working to provide abortion access in the United States.
