Mrs Hinch, whose real name is Sophie Hinchliffe, garnered popularity after sharing her cleaning tips and recommendations on social media and TV. The cleaning enthusiast has managed to gain over 4.1 million followers on Instagram. Now, fans of hers have created their own social media groups dedicated to cleaning and tidying tips.

One of the groups receives hundreds of tips each day from keen cleaning fans.

The group, which has over 635,000 members, saw one individual ask how she can “deter house flies” from entering her home.

She said: “Has anyone got any home remedies to deter house flies? They are making me mad! Please help.”

The post was inundated with just under 200 comments from Mrs Hinch fans who recommended using a cheap DIY hack.

One user suggested: “Use a plastic bag filled with water and some coins in front of your door – stops them coming in.

“Not sure why it works but it does reduce them.”

A second user said: “Apparently if you hang a bag of water with copper coins inside your doorway they don’t come in.”

A third added: “Copper coins in a bag of water hanging over the door.”

Another user suggested: “Put a clear bag full of 2ps and 1ps in water, hang from the doors and windows, they think it’s a wasp nest and stay away.”

Other users also recommended using one or two pence coins inside a sealed sandwich bag full of water.

They then suggested to hang the bag up near doors and windows.

“Put a bag of water with a few 2ps in hanging beside your door,” claimed another person.

One added: “I have read people putting 2ps in a clear bag full of water and hanging it above the door/windows. Apparently it resembles a predator.”

You can buy 100 resealable sandwich bags from Amazon for as little as £1.60.

Place copper coins in the bag before filling it with water.

Other suggestions from users included using citronella candles and incense, studding half a lemon with cloves, using eucalyptus or mint oil, and placing various herbs, such as basil and lavender, by the back door.

One user suggested: “We used to grow basil by the back door when we lived in Western Australia as they were so bad.

“There are a few different herbs that are recommended to grow around the doorways to help keep flies at bay. I would google to see what is recommended.”

Another person added: “Eucalyptus oil and mint oil, I put in burners. Not one fly in the house now.”

A third penned: “Peppermint oil. Mix in a spray bottle with water and spray around windows and doors. Apparently lavender or eucalyptus works too.”

A fourth said: “We have several basil plants next to doors, it definitely seems to be working.”
