Cleaning and home-keeping expert Becky Rapinchuk is the woman behind Clean Mama. The Australian housekeeping expert runs a platform with hundreds of thousands of fans.

The influencer, with a huge 747,000 Instagram followers on the @cleanmama account, uses a daily cleaning product found in every household for her oven.

Rebecca told Express.co.uk: “Dish soap works great at tackling grease.”

The expert, who also shares tips with her fans on her Facebook page, recommends making your own cleaner with it, using a simple method.

Cleaning pro Rebecca, who has written four books, said: “Use about one tsp with 16 oz of hot water in a spray bottle, shake, spray and wipe clean.”

For stubborn grease, leave the homemade product on, allowing it to sink in and lift the grease away.

A number of other natural and cheap products can be used to degrease.

Lemon and baking soda combined made a good degreaser.

The citrus of the lemon juice cuts through the grease, while the baking soda also breaks down the grease and acts as a fine scrub.

Natural vinegar is also an excellent degreaser.

The acid in the vinegar cuts through the grease, lifting it away from the surface.

How to clean an oven

If you are not lucky enough to own a self-cleaning oven, you will have to resort to the old-fashioned method and get scrubbing.

What are the steps to efficiently clean your oven?

  • Switch off your oven
  • Take out the shelving
  • Use a cloth to wipe away any large bits of cooked-on food
  • Use a scraper to take out any more difficult to remove bits of cooked-on food

  • Use your oven cleaner in the oven, following the instructions accompanying the product
  • Leave the product to soak for 30 minutes with the door closed
  • Use an wire oven cleaner to scrub the inside of the oven
  • Wipe the inside of the oven with a damp sponge and remove the cleaner and dirt
  • Wipe around the inside of the oven with a microfibre cloth

How often should you clean an oven?

There is no consensus among home and cleaning experts as to how often to clean an oven.

Some say three months, while others recommend cleaning it every month.

However often you decide, it is important to keep on top of your oven.

The longer you leave to clean in, the bigger a job it will be. Additionally, dirty ovens are more likely to break down and even pose a fire hazard.
